Welcome to Refurbished Laptops

Refurbished LaptopsDid you know that instead of buying a 'new' laptop you could save yourself upto 80% in cash if you were to buy a refurbished laptop instead? Believe it or not there are statistics that can prove that people who have bought a refurbished laptop will never buy a "brand new" laptop again. Original manufacturers are so confident about their refurbished laptops that they provide you with the original warranty.

So what exactly is "factory refurbished"?

Many things could be considered "factory refurbished". Current consumer law prevents manufacturers selling their refurbished items as new, but refurbished laptops are as good as new but much cheaper!

As an example, major retailers offer 30 days money back guarantee on all their store merchandise and many shoppers will take advantage of this. When that particular laptop is returned, the manufacturer have to inspect the product and then re-package it as new. Except it can't be sold as new so you get a cut down price with the original warranty, and it's classed as a 'refurb laptop'. Another reason could be something trivial like the box being damaged in transit, so it was returned, not really much of a defect as it's only the box, but the manufacturer will test the laptop for any damage and then repackage it again. It could be a minor little scratch on the laptop casing that was corrected. Demo display units are also considered refurbished, these are also tested for faults then repackaged and sold on. Maybe the box was opened or brand new items that have been overstocked can also be classed as refurbished.

The history behind a particular refurbished laptop is not always available. So you might not always be able to find out exactly why it's refurbished. But the manufacturers ensure that all their refurbished laptops are inspected and fully working before they re sell them on. As said before all refurbished computer items are under original manufacturer warranty unless stated otherwise. Overall it's really a win-win purchase as not only are you getting a good deal but the laptop itself should be good as new.

Refurbished laptops have a much lower defect rate than new ones. Infact only 1 in 10 laptops that are sent back for repair are factory refurbished laptops. This is probably because they are meticulously tested before they are sold. The only real difference is there might be a label on the outside of the box or it might not be in the original packaging. So next time you're thinking buying a new laptop, think twice and consider buying a refurb :)
